Blood 1 – Tutorial on easy blood recipes using glue and other household items

Easy to make Blood Tutorial

This tutorial covers a few formulas to make fake blood at home. These blood recipes are glue based and although non-toxic, are definitely not edible. I’ll be adding more formulas to this post over time until we have a nice compendium of blood recipes. These fake blood recipes are perfectly suited for indoor props and clothing. I’ve also added some “additives” at the bottom of the post that will add dimension and exciting uses for your blood.

For this glue recipe use 1 teaspoon of Clear Elmer’s glue

Mix with 6 drops of red food color and 1 drop blue food color

Stir well and apply

Clear blood type 2:

Use 1/2 teaspoon of Mod Podge and 1/2 teaspoon of water

Mix with 6 drops of red food color and 1 drop blue food color

Stir well and apply

This is a runny glue so it’s better to apply to clothes or other items where it can soak into or on horizontal surfaces where it can puddle up.

Milky blood type 1:

For this glue recipe use 1/2 teaspoon of Elmer’s All Purpose School glue

Mix with 6 drops of red food color and 1 drop blue food color

Stir well and apply

This blood works better when you have light behind the blood and you don’t want it to look like grenadine syrup and instead have some opacity. This recipe resembles real blood better…blood is opaque (it’s a tissue) and not clear and see-through.

For additional gore and dimension to your blood add the following:

Basic recipe with coffee grounds

Coffee grounds: Makes the blood look like it has clots and congealed bits and pieces of tissue.

Blood with rice added

White or brown rice: Mixing with rice will make the blood look like it has maggots crawling in it. Really creepy and disgusting effect. For even more realism, paint the tip of the rice grain black or brown. It’ll look like the heads of the maggots.

Paint the tip of the rice – tedious!

Oatmeal: This makes the blood get some volume and looks like lumps of tissue and fat are in the blood.

Try all these and see what works for you. These recipes can be stored in a sealed container. This way you can make a lot and store for multiple projects. I have used the first recipe in the Jar of Eyes tutorial with great results and lots of compliments.
